The origin of the castle is Muslim and is located on the hill of the village at an altitude of 371 meters, where there is an extraordinary overview of the surroundings. The castle date back according to most historians to Roman times.
During de Carlist Wars, the castle was scene of the most important military confrontations, standing out the two Battles of Chiva (1836 and 1837). They were on both defeated the Carlist forces.
In the castle you will find the remains of the walls and towers. Nowadays there is a plan to restore it. Next to remains you will find the Hermitage of Virgen del Castillo, dates from the XVIII century. There is the image of the Virgen, which is the patron saint of the village and is taken in procession for the celebrations of patron saint.
